I play Gaelic Football for the Fog City Harps, the number one ranked club in the United States and after 8 years of playing I was unhappy about the amount of playing time I was given. I asked my coach why I was not getting more playing time when my skills were so strong and was told that it was a matter of speed on the field which I did not have. I decided that although I had had operations on my ankle and knee and had been binge drinking like a rockstar for years I would try my best to get faster. I saw a health coach and had my body fat and metabolism checked by my doctor but even with that information I was unable to drop any significant weight. I decided to go to Zander for some personal training to see if it would help me reach my goals of improving my speed and dropping some weight.
I have to admit that upon meeting Zander I was skeptical as I had had personal training in the past and although I would get stronger I would not drop much weight. When I first started Zander had me doing a combination of weightlifting and body weight exercises. He also suggested that I track my macros and showed me how to eat to fuel my body for performance. Surprisingly after playing sports all of my life this was the first time someone had really explained how to eat like an athlete. Once I started tracking my macros, doing personal training with Zander once a week and doing the workouts he wrote out for the gym 3 times a week I started seeing some great results. I found myself losing 1.5-2 pounds a week while gaining strength. My progress on the scale and in the gym resulted in a huge difference in speed on the field and I was exstatic.
What I didn’t expect was that as I continued to train with Zander I was getting really strong and I really enjoyed lifting weights. My squat, bench press and deadlift were pretty strong for the average female gym goer so I asked if Zander could coach me in powerlifting because I wanted to try a competition one day. So after losing 45 pounds I switched from personal training to being coached in powerlifting. I did my first meet in November 2016 and came in first place. I was hooked and continued to train and compete placing in all three competitions I have entered.
I have to say I have never felt as happy as I am today, medals aside I attribute my satisfaction with my progress to the support I have recieved from Zander. As a personal trainer and coach he has answered every question I have asked, which in my case is like ten a day. He has been attentive in reguard to tracking my progress, as well as providing genuine praise. He has an amazing ability to help you see your growth and progress even on a day where you feel like you have had a setback. Zander trains and coaches with passion and a true investment in his clients progress and goals. You can actually see the pride in his smile weather you are doing your first body weight squat with good form or receiving a first place medal after hitting PRs in all three lifts in a competition. If you are looking for a trainer who goes out of his way to form a real connection with his clients and is only satisfied when he has done his personal best to help you reach your goals Zander is the man for the job.
