Flexible Dieting is the approach we take. What does that mean? You have a daily budget of calories and spend on foods with which you prefer. No food is seen as good or bad. We look at the diet in its entirety.
You can certainly have a bad diet full of traditional “good” foods if you go over your daily budget. On the flip side you can have a good diet with some “bad” foods mixed in assuming you stay within that budget. So essentially you can have your cake and eat it too.
There are however some things to consider. First, we want to make sure we are eating adequate protein, fiber, and micronutrients while staying within the recommended calorie/macro-nutrient ranges. There must also be a high level of self awareness to be successful with this approach. If a particular food can trigger you to binge or over eat, it is probably best to avoid it majority of the time (most notably in a fat loss phase).
The idea here is to create habits that will last a lifetime. Most people take an approach to fat loss that is overly extreme and fail to keep the weight off long term.
